Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University
Department of International Trade and Logistics
Message from the Head of Department
Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University, one of Turkey's youngest state universities, has adopted the slogan “New Generation State University.” The Department of International Trade and Logistics shapes all its education, teaching, and research processes under the slogan “Cross the Boundaries,” integrating the university's “new generation” emphasis and the department's mission. Our department boasts a young, dynamic, and internationally recognized academic staff, with faculty members who have private sector experience and experts from various organizations also contributing to the courses.
Our department is located in Bandırma, one of Turkey's rare logistics centers where road, rail, and sea transport modes are integrated, offering students a unique sectoral advantage. Bandırma Port, the trade and logistics hub of Southern Marmara, enhances the region's strategic importance with its railway connection extending all the way to the docks, providing strong links to Istanbul, Southern Marmara, and the Aegean regions. In 2023, the port handled over 4 million tons of dry bulk and general cargo, nearly 600,000 tons of liquid chemical cargo, and nearly 80,000 tons of other liquid bulk cargo. In terms of trade volume, the Port of Bandırma achieved imports exceeding 1.5 billion dollars and exports totaling 719 million dollars. In addition, with 65 export companies registered with the Bandırma Chamber of Commerce, the region has significant potential in terms of foreign trade. These features put our department in a more advantageous position compared to its competitors and offer students the opportunity to establish direct contact with the sector. Similarly, passenger transportation is carried out via regular ferry services between Bandırma and Istanbul. The military airbase located in the city and Bandırma's proximity to numerous air and land transportation hubs further reinforce the region's logistical advantages.
The lively and dynamic structure of Bandırma enables students to benefit more from the support of public and private sector representatives. Thanks to its growing staff and geographical location, the Department of International Trade and Logistics is growing stronger every day with its internal and external stakeholders and industry professionals on its advisory board.
In addition, our Department has two complementary student clubs: the Logistics Society and the International Trade Society. Our clubs create a social environment for their members and invite industry professionals to our University through regular events, creating a growing ecosystem. In addition, our students have the opportunity to experience the industry firsthand through numerous technical field trips.
According to 2024 data, the “International Trade and Logistics Department” ranks 8th among programs with the same department name at 35 state universities in terms of the “base score and success ranking” criterion. Our department's academic staff consists of 2 professors, 2 associate professors, 1 assistant professor, and 3 research assistants. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all prospective students who choose our department. I invite you to push your boundaries through the education and training you will receive here.
Prof. Dr. Harun YILDIZ
